Track I – Advanced Burn Life Support Provider (ABLS) Course
Saturday, February 28, 2009

This course provides guidelines in the assessment and management of the burn patient during the first 24 hours post injury.  Following a series of lectures, case studies are presented for group discussions.  The one day courses offers participants an opportunity to work with a simulated burn patient to reinforce the assessment, stabilization, and American Burn Association’s transfer criteria to a Burn Center will be given.  Final testing consists of a written exam (50q) and a practical assessment.

Note, although EMTs are permitted to take part in this course, the content of the program is advanced and geared to Paramedics, Nurses and Physicians.  ABLS Instructors will make themselves available to assist participants in their efforts to successfully complete the program.  Class size for this track is limited and pre-registration---a minimum of three weeks in advance—is recommended to ensure timely distribution of required course materials and a student manual for review prior to the course.

The Advanced Burn Life Support Provider Course is being offered thru the American Trauma Society and partial funding from Pennsylvania’s Hospital Preparedness Grant.  Participants who successfully complete the ABLS Course will receive formal recognition from the American Trauma Society.  This program has been rated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health for 7.5 Medical Trauma Hours for Paramedics/PHRNs and 6.5 for EMTs.  Physicians are eligible for 7.5 Category 1 AMA CEUs and Nurses can earn 8 AACN CERP Category A credits.
